Bow - London
This project centred on shaping a three-bedroom apartment in East London for clients with a strong appreciation for collected and characterful interiors. The brief involved designing a primary ensuite bedroom, a welcoming guest bedroom, and transforming a third room into a functional home office, while creating a cohesive atmosphere across the entire home.
I explored an eclectic selection of vintage market finds from across the country, alongside travel pieces and bespoke or carefully restored furniture. This sensibility is visible throughout, from the teak chest of drawers with signature U-shaped brass pulls and the Windsor-style black chair, to the walnut bedside tables and oval G Plan dining table, all of which are genuinely vintage rather than reproduction. The final result aesthetic draws from a blend of Art Deco, mid-century modern, and eclectic influences, with an emphasis on comfort and understated elegance. The design approach focused on celebrating some existing pieces and giving them a clear visual framework within the apartment.
The curated artwork reinforces the homeowner’s collector spirit throughout: figure drawings, folk art, a Maeght Editeur exhibition poster, bold photography, and a personal jewellery box all speak to a life well-travelled and genuinely lived-in rather than decorator-assembled.
Although naturally cautious with colour and bold interventions, the concept introduced confident layers of contrast, texture, and materiality to build depth within the scheme. Deep forest green walls and an Art Deco geometric wallpaper define the guest bedroom, while the primary bedroom responds with a rich aubergine and an ikat-print feature wall. The living space takes a more dramatic turn with black walls anchored by an olive green lounge chair and a full drinks cabinet, evoking the warmth of a London private members' club. Against this, the kitchen offers a clean and restrained counterpoint. The home office balances practicality with personality, housing an extensive book collection behind glazed cabinetry alongside the clients' framed diploma and personal mementos.
The result is a balanced and deeply personal interior that reflects the clients' travels, collections, and lifestyle, bringing together individuality, warmth, and quiet sophistication throughout the home.
